After one of their greatest performances in the past World Cup, Colombia will try to confirm he is a serious contender to lift their second Copa America in 15 years.

Colombia's National Team has been referred to as one of the most exciting South American sides in recent years. Led by Real Madrid's James Rodriguez, and with a talented generation of players, Los Cafeteros want to prove the world that their performance in Brazil may see them return to the big stage just like they did back in the days of Carlos Valderrama and Rene Higuita. After being drawn into the same group as Brazil, Peru and Venezuela, it will be quite interesting to watch them play against the team that eliminated them from Brazil 2014. Their fantastic performance last year propelled them to the fourth spot in FIFA's ranking, while holding the second place among CONMEBOL teams.

What does history say about Colombia's Copa America performances?

The Colombians celebrate a goal against Greece in Brazil 2014.

"La Selección Colombia" hasn't enjoyed a very successful run in the South American tournament despite putting together some talented lineups. The Colombian team has participated in 20 Cup editions, winning the 2001 edition they organized. Apart from that, they lost the final match in 1975, and ranked third three times (1987,1993 and 1995). Individually, Arnoldo Iguarán is ranked among the tournament's top scorers with ten goals, whilst Carlos Valderrama and Leonel Álvarez are tied in fourth place among those players with more games in this event, with each footballer performing 27 times for their National Team.

Colombia's top players to watch

With one of the most talented teams in the tournament, it's hard to pick just one player that stands out with the Colombian side. Of course, James Rodriguez steals the show, after having his breakthrough season with Real Madrid. The skillful playmaker is a very serious threat for his opponents, and he will be trying to keep his reputation up by leading the Colombians to another title. Apart from Rodriguez, Carlos Bacca and Jackson Martinez are among those who could give Nestor Pekerman a variety of options up front, while they wait and see if Radamel Falcao can remember how he once was considered as one of the deadliest strikers in the world.

Falcao(left), Jackson Martínez (center) and Carlos Bacca (right), will be helping out James with the team's goalscoring duties.
