Van Gaal has given Manchester the chance to return to European competitions. He described the fans as the best in the world.

Louis van Gaal let loose for once and had some fun in the Manchester United Player of the Year awards night. The Dutch manager became the center of attention on Tuesday night at Old Trafford's presidential suite.

It was the same night in which David de Gea won Players' Player and Fans' Player of the Year for a second year in a row. The achievements from the Spanish goalkeeper did not dim Van Gaal's spotlight.

Van Gaal got the laughs, others got the awards

The Dutch manager used the beginning of his seven-minute speech to congratulate his players on what they did. Despite a rocky start from the team that only gathered 13 points in 10 games, they are now in fourth place of the English Premier League with only one game to go.

"Could have been the champions," Van Gaal said before adding they were "very close" to catching up with Chelsea, a team they trail by 15 points.

LVG summarized the season in around seven minutes

Jim Rosenthal was starting to close things up but the Dutch Iron was not done. He took the microphone once again for an encore that started brilliantly.

"Hello, hello, pay attention to the manager!" Van Gaal shouted trying to get everyone's attention and applaud the female saxophonist who had been playing all night and did it "fantastically."

Louis Van Gaal may not have gotten positive reviews for his performance as a manager. For his performance at the special night, there was not a single jeer.

The boss wanted to be the center of attention
