Casillas had his debut with the team in 1999 at San Mamés when he was 18. Iker joined the club when he was nine and turned 34 today (Wednesday).

Iker Casillas turns 34 this Wednesday and there seems to be nothing clear about his future with the club that he joined when he was only nine years old. The Spanish international has just been given the opportunity to decide what is best for him, to either stay or leave the nest for someone else to take his place.

"If you want to stay at Real Madrid, you can. We are counting on you for next year."

Those were the words of Real Madrid's director general, José Ángel Sánchez in a meeting he had with the goalkeeper that has been criticized by fans for his latest performances. The last one was in the game against Valencia where the team was down 2-0 by halftime.

The club congratulated their star goalkeeper

The pressure of Madrid to sign David de Gea, his teammate in the Spanish national team is something that could put his spot in the roster at risk. Also, the pressure that Keylor Navas is doing to win that starting position is something to consider for the veteran goalkeeper.

His contract expires in two years. The club knows how important Iker has been to their success in past years and in the meeting, showed its support for their iconic figure. Iker seemed to be pleased with what was agreed behind closed doors.

Iker Casillas gets plenty of jeers lately from fansIker Casillas gets plenty of jeers lately from fansCasillas saw his team win 4-1 over Espanyol from the bench. He has now asked to be the man between the sticks for Saturday's match against Getafe. It will be his 725th match with the same uniform, close to what Raul Gonzalez Blanco achieved with 741 games as a Real Madrid player.

Iker will most likely retire as a Merengue. There is a chance that this weekend will be the last time we see Iker as Madrid's goalkeeper. He has a long summer ahead of him to decide. The winner of three UCL titles with Los Blancos has the last word and only time will tell us the answer.
