Mourinho gave Madrid their last La Liga title but no UCL titles. His relationship with media, fans and players was not very pleasant.

Jose Mourinho gave Real Madrid players, fans and media a lot of problems and their relationship was not good for the most part. At the same time, the Special One gave the team its last La Liga title three seasons ago. Now, Madrid is going after him once again after Carlo Ancelotti has failed twice at winning the domestic league.

Since Mourinho has been gone, Real Madrid has won everything but La Liga. The Portuguese manager is among a selected group of four coaches to replace Ancelotti. The Italian coach is currently under a contract that expires next season, but at the Santiago Bernabeu, that barely ever works as an excuse to keep your job.

"Real have spoken to Julen Lopetegui at Porto, to Jurgen Klopp, to Rafa Benitez and Jose Mourinho. They have already spoken to those four to see if they would be interested in coaching Real Madrid. They have spoken to Jose Mourinho—he said no to them, of course."

Players like Marcelo and Sergio Ramos have spoken highly about their current manager, wishing he could stay longer. There seems to be good chemistry in Madrid's locker room, but that has not translated into good results.

Benitez is another strong option with enough credits to replace CarlettoBenitez is the next best thing that could go in for MadridReal Madrid does not tend to give their managers much time to come up with the results they want. Someone with good experience in La Liga is Rafa Benitez, who led Valencia to two titles in three years. He also knows what it is like to win the Champions League, having done so with Liverpool (2005). And with Chelsea in 2013, he lifted the Europa League.

"Out of those four, Rafa is favoured by some but not others. Mourinho is favoured by some and not by others and Lopetegui is deemed as something for the future, but they have sounded out all of them," Guillem Balague of Sky Sports said.
