Emanuel Ortega, who played for San Martin Burzaco, suffered a horrific head injury two weeks ago while playing a 5th tier match against Juventud Unida.

Tragedy struck Argentinian football today, after 21-year old Emanuel Ortega was pronounced dead following a horrific head injury. Ortega, who played for San Martin Burzaco, could not stay on his feet after he was accidentally pushed by Chilean striker Alexis Valenzuela when both footballers fought for the ball. Ortega was inmediately stretchered out of the pitch and taken to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a double skull fracture.

Ortega hit his head against a concrete wall that separates the stands from the pitch. As incredible as it may seem, the pitch and the wall are separated by just one meter, which led to the fatal result.

Out of respect for the player, the Argentinian Football Association (AFA) decided to suspend all games this weekend, according to their Twitter feed.

"Football family is in mourning due to the death of Emanuel Ortega. We will suspend all programmed activity for the weekend"
