Chelsea's manager claimed he would have loved to sign Gerrard earlier in his career. The Liverpool midfielder praised Chelsea's manager and thanked fans.

Steven Gerrard continues his English Premier League farewell tour and this Sunday it landed at Stamford Bridge, one of Liverpool's most hated rivals. A visit to a place where the fans usually hated him, but today, the story was a bit different. Gerrard scored the equalizer and received a standing ovation as he exited the pitch. 

During the week, Jose Mourinho praised Gerrard as not only one of the best midfielders in England but in the world. Someone that he would have liked to sign earlier on with every team the Special One was with. Mou considered that Gerrard was one of those players that made him better as a manager.

"I have huge respect for him. He's the best manager in the world, in my opinion," Stevie G said about Mourinho.

The English midfielder has played his whole career representing the team from Anfield, but that doesn't mean he looked at other options. It was his love for the club that has been behind him since day one, that Gerrard stayed with The Reds year after year.

"He's the reason my head was turned on a couple of occasions but he knew why I couldn't do it, because I love Liverpool Football Club."

"Chelsea fans have shown me respect for a couple of seconds but slaughtered me all game," Gerrard said. "It was nice of them to turn up for once today."
