Former player Karl Heiz Rummenigge also blasted Diego Simeone's tactics for considering them to be 'too careful'.

Bayern Munich's President Karl Heinz Rummenigge revealed today he felt "happy" not having to face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals. The German executive and former striker for Die Mannschaft stated that Atletico's football under Diego Simeone has nothing to do with being spectacular, and that their absence is something that should be thanked by everyone.

"I have to say that I'm glad by not having to face Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. That's the one thing I would've liked the least. Football has to do with joy, happiness and spectacularity, and those are values that they don't defend over there," Rummenigge stated

Bayern's boss also referred to what the team can expect in the upcoming semi-finals, considering they will be facing the best teams in European football.

"I don't wish to take on any of the opponents in particular. You have to understand that these are the best teams football can offer, and you have to be ecstatic for being among those teams. That goes for the rest of the teams, I don't think that any of them want to be drawn against us," Bayern's exec added.

Guardiola is going nowhere

Following recent rumors about Pep Guardiola's future away from the club, Rummenigge denied such claims by revealing the team's main intention is to keep the Spanish manager with them for a long time, even with his contract expiring after next season.

"That's not going to happen. I think we are in a great position to have him working with us for a long time after 2016. I'm not worried about what people say. What that type of rumor can show you is that we have a wonderful coach with us," Rummenigge concluded.
