It’s official. Europe’s four best teams this season are from Spain, Italy and Germany. How will they be paired in the UCL semis draw this Friday?
Tuesday and Wednesday nights produced totally different emotions. The first of those saw Barcelona and Bayern Munich progress comfortably. The Blaugrana had a 3-1 advantage over PSG. It was only a matter of formally sealing their spot into the Last 4 while Les Parisiens needed a miracle to triumph at the Camp Nou.
For Laurent Blanc and his men – led by Zlatan Ibrahimovic – the miracle never happened. Neymar’s brace rounded up Barca’s convincing 5-1 aggregate victory over the mega rich French club.
In Germany, Bayern Munich were faced with a tricky task after surprisingly going down 3-1 to FC Porto in Portugal. In incredible fashion, Pep Guardiola’s men turned the tables around to impose a 6-1 defeat upon the visitors. The Allianz Arena went into flames with Thomas Mueller grabbing a megaphone to fuel the celebrations. Two games, ten goals.
On the contrary, there was only one goal scored on Wednesday and it was Chicharito who netted it after a great one-two between James Rodriguez and assist-maker Cristiano Ronaldo. Real Madrid’s hopes of becoming the first team to successfully retain its UEFA Champions League title remain alive.
Los Blancos were joined by Juventus in the semi-finals. Hard luck to Berbatov’s AS Monaco who never managed to find the back of the net in their quarter-final tie!
