Ironically, just this Tuesday Puebla took home the Copa MX championship after a sound 4-2 win over Chivas de Guadalajara. The Copa MX final also marked the retirement of Cuauhtémoc Blanco, who took the field for 25 minutes in a last goodbye to his fans. Argentina’s Matías Alustiza, who played with Pachuca for two seasons, was the MVP, scoring two goals against Guadalajara. He and three other players are tied at 7 points as the league’s top scorers.
Historically, Pachuca and Puebla have been evenly matched on the field. They have faced each other 17 times in regular season play since Apertura 2004, with 5 wins each and 7 ties.
