Both players used Twitter to clarify what happened. The Croatian striker played most of the second half with a bloody face.

Dani Carvajal was accused of bitting Atletico’s striker Mario Mandzukic in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League Quarter-Final game. Before things heated up, the Croatian denied his opponent in the derby had bitten him.

Both players did not seem to get along at all during the game. They were fighting for every ball. Sometimes the fight got a little bit too physical and some punches were thrown. In the end, Carvajal and Mandzukic felt that was just part of football.

"Seeing that after the game I've been accused of biting an oponent, I want to make it clear that I have not bitten anyone nor tried to do so" 

The most controversial part of the match between the two was when it appeared that Carvajal bit his opponent. Mandzukic had thrown his arm to the side and it landed right in front of the Madrid’s defender’s mouth. The answer to if it was a bite or not was published on Twitter by the striker from Los Colchoneros.
