The Chilean midfielder transformed a penalty kick into the game's only goal, giving Juventus the lead against the red and white French side.

Juventus increased their chances of returning to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals after defeating Monaco in the first leg of their quarter-final series. The French side defended correctly until Ricardo Carvalho brought down Alvaro Morata in the 16-yard box, forcing the game's ref to award a penalty. "King" Arturo Vidal did not miss from the spot, and scored the only goal during Tuesday's Champions League games.

Historically, Juventus has been awarded 17 penalty kicks, scoring 14 goals in the process. With today's shot, Vidal came one penalty kick closer to tying Alessandro Del Piero as Juve's top penalty scorers of all time. Del Piero scored six, Vidal now holds five, Amoruso scored two more and Inzaghi managed to transform only one. Furthermore, this was Vidal's ninth UEFA Champions League goal, but shockingly, this was his first since October 2013. The Chilean redeemed himself after missing an incredible goal during the first half, which had some fans mocking his fortune.

Now, Juventus needs to hold on to their lead to make it to the semis, and if they manage to score a goal at Stade Louis II, then Monaco will be needing three in order to get them out of the competition.

Here's what fans and experts had to say about Juve's display and Vidal's superbly taken penalty.

"Pirlo, Tevez, and the penalty kick is taken by Vidal. That's crack-like stuff!"
