Atlético has four wins and two draws against Madrid since the 2014 final. Los Merengues have not scored on Atletico this season.

Atlético Madrid hosts Real Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals. A game where more than just a ticket to the next round is at stake, but pride and bragging rights in the Spanish capital at the Vicente Calderón.

As soon as this match was drawn last month, everyone started talking about the rematch between both sides from the UCL Final at Lisbon last year. That time Real Madrid won 4-1. Ever since then, Atlético has not lost a game.

Real Madrid seems to be getting out of a rough patch and just added nine points in one week, getting two points closer to Barcelona in La Liga. They scored 14 goals and only received one in that same timeframe.

For the very first time in a very long time, Carlo Ancelotti can have all his 23 men at his disposal. Pepe, Gareth Bale, Fabio Coentrao and Sami Khedira are back after recovering from their injuries.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 13 goals in his last ten games. He is the second best goal scorer in the Champions League this season with eight, alongside Lionel Messi. His two goals in the second leg against Schalke were vital for Madrid to stay alive. He has scored 15 goals in his career against Atlético, including one in last year’s final.

Diego Simeone lost the fight in Lisbon but is definitely winning the war when it comes to facing Ancelotti’s side. The Argentinian manager has four wins and two draws against the same team since last year’s final.

He claims that Madrid is stronger in the individual game, but Los Colchoneros have proven time and time again that they can work well as a team. While Madrid’s offense has been on fire lately, throughout the season they have not scored against Atlético.

Mario Madzukic is clear to return against Real. The Croatian has been Atlético's leading scorer (5) in the European competition. Jan Oblak will try to keep the clean sheet for Simeone’s team tomorrow. Oblak became a hero after helping his side defeat Bayer Leverkusen in penalty kicks.

Madrid is still unbeaten on the road in this year’s UCL. Los Merengues look to regain the control of Spain’s capital, which they held for many years. Now, times have changed and Atlético seems to be in control. Can they hold on to it when it matters most?

Simeone knows this is not an easy task at hand
