He scored Atletico's only goal in the final at Lisbon last year. Atletico has won every game ever since.

One of the most interesting matchups for this quarterfinal stage of the UEFA Champions League is the clash between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid. They both met in last year’s final, but for some Colchoneros, this is not revenge.

Diego Godin says that the only way to consider this match as revenge is if it was again in the final. Since that is not the case, it is business as usual for Atletico Madrid.

“That was a final, and there can be no revenge in a quarterfinal. We always want to beat Real,” Godin said.

Ever since that loss in Lisbon last June, Diego Simeone’s team has beat Real Madrid in every game they played. That includes La Liga, Copa del Rey and the Spanish Supercup matchups between the two.

Godin was the man who gave Atletico a momentary lead in last year’s final. His goal would not be enough as Sergio Ramos tied the game in stoppage time. Madrid scored three times in overtime and earned La Decima in Lisbon.

“We need to perform weith our own power and dynamic, also with our fans, and get a result. It would be best not to concede,” Godin added.

The Uruguayan defender took some pressure off his team by signaling Barcelona, Bayern and Real as the favorites crown themselves in the end. They see themselves as the underdogs but are just as determined to reach the final for a second year in a row.

“Of course we want to celebrate in Berlin. That’s the dream we have. Everything else would be a lie,” Godin claimed.

Atletico Madrid suffered to get into this stage after beating Bayer Leverkusen on penalties. Real Madrid also found themselves in trouble when Schalke 04 was one goal away from knocking them out at their own stadium.
