The Dutch striker trained with the first team during the week, but coach Louis Van Gaal determined he should be left out of the squad against the Citizens.

Manchester United's season has had its ups and downs, reflecting on some of their players. While some footballers were snubbed by Louis Van Gaal before all the competitions started, others that gave their fans high hopes have been quite a disappointment. Such is the case of Colombian striker Radamel Falcao and of our subject of analisys, Robin Van Persie.

The 31-year old Dutch's had a complicated season, struggling with injuries practically from the beginning of the year, but when he's been fit to play, he has hardly made a difference for Van Gaal's crew. For example, Van Persie averages one goal every 199.3 minutes, that is 79 more minutes than his average when he first arrived at Old Trafford. His average is lower than Wayne Rooney's, who has experienced a goal revival in the last games without the former Arsenal striker, but still better than Falcao's (one goal every 258 minutes). Up to this date, Van Persie's stats under Van Gaal fail to impress, since he hasn't been able to establish himself as the goal scoring threat he was.

The problem for RVP does not stop there. While he's been away, Manchester United has hardly missed him on the pitch, scoring thirteen goals in his absence. Their only loss came against Arsenal in the FA Cup, with every Premier League game they've played since he came down with an injury ending with a win.

With the team's current form and having only scored one goal for United against the Citizens, will Van Persie be sorely missed as a goal scoring threat this Sunday, or will Wayne Rooney and Marouane Fellaini contribute better for the team?
