Most publications agreed Spain lacked leadership on the field. Del Bosque claimed it was not a failure.

The Spanish press is not happy with how its national team played against Netherlands in a rematch from their opening game in the World Cup. La Furia lost 2-0 at Amsterdam and there was nothing good about it.

20 minutes was all it took for Netherlands to bury any chances for Spain to win the game. Stefan de Vrij and Davy Klaassen were the one in charge of scoring for the home team. After that, the game was scoreless for the next 70 minutes.

Most of the criticism came because Vicente del Bosque did not seem to take this game seriously. He tried giving young players a chance in a game that required of a more experienced squad.

“In 20 minutes, La Roja paid the price for an experimental lineup,” the Spanish newspaper AS read.

Most publications felt that Spain looked to be a lazy team. It was a squad without the ability to score and without leadership.

“Spain has lost its football, its identity and its pride,” was written in Mundo Deportivo. “Netherlands didn’t do anything extraordinary to win the game.”

“Spain is no longer that team that makes you fall in love with its game and is now a slow, without a spark, predictable, and even worst without pride.”

Vicente del Bosque had a great opportunity to seek revenge after the 5-1 loss in Brazil, but he blew it. For the Spanish manager, this was not as bad as it seemed.

"I'm satisfied with everyone's behaviour. There are players who aren't in the squad as regularly and who rose to the challenge".

He might be one of the few that thinks the game at the Amsterdam ArenA wasn’t a failure. After all, that makes it harder for La Furia to return to FIFA’s top 10.

“Netherlands had enough in a quarter of an hour to stun La Roja, score two gals and live at ease the rest of the game,” was what Sport published.
