With the German defender long on the Red Devils' radar, Hummels admits he may be set for a move away from Signal Iduna Park

Having lifted two consecutive Bundesliga title back in 2011 and 2012, finishing as runners-up in the Champions League in 2012 with Borussia Dortmund, and clinching the World Cup in 2014 with Germany, Mats Hummels is a defender in demand.

The 26-year-old defender has long been linked with a host of European giants, but never looked ready with the prospect of leaving Signal Iduna Park, his home of seven years.

Recently, however, Hummels admitted that he intends on exiting the Bundesliga soon, when asked about interest from Manchester United.

Speaking to Kicker magazine, he said:

“Some days I think I would definitely like to move abroad but then, other days, I think I don't fancy it at all,' he said when asked of United's interest.

"Basically, I think moving abroad would be good for my professional and personal well-being. Eventually, I'd like to leave the Bundesliga.

“I have had many conversations with the leaders of Dortmund, where I know I am a big part of the team, but I am yet to make a decision about my future.

"I'm being open about this because I'm not a fan of those who claim they are staying but, behind the scenes, have actually secretly agreed a transfer away from their current club.

“I will do what is best for my career and what I would like to do. Everyone knows how much I love it at Dortmund but I also want to make sure I'm part of a strong team with powerful players.”

Mats Hummels, Borussia Dortmund, Bundesliga

This, of course, will come as great news to the Red Devils, who have been after the German for well over a whole season. Interest in Hummels heated up upon the arrival of Louis Van Gaal at Old Trafford, as he was after world-class center-back to help reshuffle his side's defense.

The English Premier League giants are reportedly willing to meet his £35m asking price, and given Hummels' recent comments, the 20-time champions could be welcoming him to their ranks soon.
