Ronaldo was in the lead on Goal.com Richest List. France Football measures experience, quality and marketability as key elements.

Lionel Messi is once again at the top of the charts when it comes to being the highest-paid footballer on the planet. Different to what Goal.com had on its Richest List, a survey by France Football gave the lead to the Argentinian.

His salary and sponsorships combined earned him a huge paycheck by the end of 2014.  We are talking about £47.8 million, when his basic salary is roughly £26 million.

This falls within the predictions of Barcelona’s Josep Maria Bartomeu made last March. He predicted that Messi would earn the top spot with his new contract, leaving Cristiano Ronaldo and other big stars far behind.

There are many companies that pay Messi and help him earn what he puts into his pocket. Some of them are ADIDAS, EA Sports, and Turkish Airlines, among many others worldwide.

Now Ronaldo is in second place  £39.7 million and Neymar Jr. follows in third with 26.8 million. Thiago Silva from Paris Saint Germain is in fourth, and Robbie Van Persie is in fifth.

Gareth Bale, the player that signed the most expensive contract in the history of soccer is in sixth when it comes to money earned in 2014. Then you have Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Sergio Aguero and Robert Lewandowski finish up the top 10.
