The Slovakian defender was not sent off by referee Martin Atkinson, who did not see the incident.

Slovakian defender Martin Skrtel may face a three-match ban after his incident with David De Gea in Sunday's match against Manchester United. Skrtel stamped De Gea's right leg during stoppage time, provoking an argument with the Spanish goalkeeper. Referee Martin Atkinson did not witness the action, but three former officers agreed that Skrtel should have been sent off for the incident.

Skrtel will have until Tuesday to appeal, but his chances of overturning such an investigation are rather slim.

If Skrtel ends up being suspended by the FA, he will miss Liverpool's Premier League games against Arsenal and Newcastle, plus, he will not be available to take part of the FA Cup replay against Blackburn. To make matters worse for the Reds, captain Steven Gerrard will also miss those games for being sent off by Atkinson just 48 seconds after coming into the pitch.

This is not the first incident in which Skrtel is involved this season, although he was the "victim" in the previous case. The Slovakian was stamped by Diego Costa during the Capital One Cup semi-final against Chelsea, and the Spanish striker was also punished for three games.
