Liverpool welcome arch rivals Manchester United to the Anfield as the top four battle takes centre stage. The Reds have been in impeccable form as of late and must continue it to have any chance of making it to the top four.

The Reds began their season in disappointing fashion and failed to replicate the hunger and desire they had shown last season when they took the title challenge to the wire. Their glorious campaign was very much down to the performances of their strikers Suarez and Sturridge who formed a formidable partnership  and scored a mammoth 52 goals among themselves in league outings.

However the Reds could not cope up with the departure of the Uruguayan and with Sturridge forced out with an injury, the future seemed bleak for the club and Brendan Rodgers job at the club was under intense scrutiny. They suffered a crushing loss at the hands of their bitter rivals Man United who picked up a 3-0 win in the reverse fixture at the Old Trafford, however that was the match which inspired the Reds to launch a comeback which no one expected.

Prior to their match against the Red Devils Liverpool had been mediocre at best, having managed just 21 points from the 16 matches they had played. However since that match, Liverpool have remained unbeaten in league outings having managed to win 10 of the 13 matches drawing the other three.

Key men who had been disappointing towards the beginning of the season are finally showing their worth. Simon Mignolet's performances earlier in the season resulted in him being demoted to the bench at the expense of Brad Jones. However the Belgian has returned to the starting eleven and has been instrumental after being reinstated. He has the joint second highest number of clean sheets in the Premier League this season and has rescued his team from difficult situations time and time again.

Jordan Henderson on the other hand has emerged as a potential leader for his side and through his performances he has been showing why he can be a worthy replacement for the departing Steven Gerrard. The 24 year old has scored thrice in the last four matches in all competitions but it is his all round game which has been very impressive.

Coutinho on the other hand who blew hot and cold in previous seasons is finally coming off age and has been one of the club's best players this season. Whereas his contribution in terms of goals and assists is not very impressive, but stats can at times be deceiving. The Brazilian has been monumental to Liverpool's recent thrust and has contributed with some very important goals. On Sunday, Liverpool need another big performance from their little magician.

Daniel Sturridge on the other hand has not been at his supreme best since his return from injury, bus his presence does improve the confidence in the Liverpool camp. His performances last season showed that he is among the best strikers in the country and Rodgers will be hoping that the 25 year old can rise to the occasion.

Liverpool have a strong chance of finishing in the top four regardless of the outcome on Sunday, but it will definitely make their life much easier should they win the match. A victory will not only allow them to leapfrog United to fourth place but will also give them hoards of confidence for the remainder of the season.
