Giroud and Ramsey gave the Gunners some hope, but the first leg's result was too much for them to overcome, giving Monaco the chance to make it to the Quarterfinals.

Arsenal got close to Champions League history, but ended up losing their Round of 16 matchup against Monaco. The Gunners scored a couple of goals courtesy of Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey, but were not able to cancel Monaco's three away goals and ended up empty-handed.

Arsene Wenger's men had most of the ball possession for the entire game, and enjoyed most chances to make the three goals that they needed. Giroud scored the first goal before the first half ended, kicking the ball into the roof of the net after a save by Subasic. After the break, Arsenal tried to put the ball inside Monaco's box, but they showed superb defending skills throughout the game. With 15 minutes to go, Ramsey took advantage of a bad clearance to send the ball past the keeper, giving Arsenal some hope, but they could not materialize any of the chances they had when the clock was running out. Maybe it was U2's presence on the stand that had something to do with the games outcome. Faraway, so close.

Bono, The Edge and Larry Mullen among those in attendance.

This is the fifth time in a row the Gunners have been defeated in the UCL's Round of 16.  Monaco has to thank their Croatian shot-stopper for their spot among the final eight teams, since his saves were crucial to deny glory for the Gunners.
