The Chilean came under heavy criticism from the Citizens faithful after his side fell to a shock 1-0 loss to relegation-threatened Burnley.

On Saturday, Manchester City's title hopes suffered a huge dent after the defending champions fell to a surprise loss away to relegation-threatened Burnley.

The Citizens were unable to break down the Clarets' defense, and conceded a 61st minute wonder goal from George Boyd on the other end to surrender all three points in a 1-0 defeat.

This defeat, Manchester City's third loss in four games in all competitions, means they trail league leaders Chelsea by five points having played two extra matches. Should the Blues beat Southampton on Sunday, the gap between the two will increase to eight points, still boasting a game in hand.

After the final whistle came down on the Turf Moor clash, fans of the club expressed their frustrations with the manager, with many calling for the Chilean tactician to be sacked. Check out some of the best tweets below.

Pellegrini, who has been at the helms at the Etihad since May 2013, winning one league and Capital One Cup title along the way, admitted his side's form has been worrying.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “Of course. We are doing something wrong, we are not winning the games we normally do, especially against this kind of team who have been very difficult for us. We are not scoring goals.”

“We were a little bit flat but we tried to create more chances and more space. We had three or four chances to score, they had just one on target and scored a beautiful goal.”

Manchester City are in a numerical disadvantage in the title race, but their 61-year-old boss is not throwing in the towel yet.

“When you have a mathematical chance it is possible, but in reality it is more difficult,” Pellegrini added.

“It’s important to continue trusting in what we are doing, the chance for the title is far but we must try to continue fighting for our position and we have an important game against Barcelona (in the Champions League on Wednesday)."
