The Portuguese superstar vowed not to speak to the Spanish press for the rest of the season after Real Madrid's disappointing home defeat.

Cristiano Ronaldo may have set a new Champions League record on Tuesday, surpassing Raul as the all-time top scorer in UEFA competitions with a brace against Schalke, but the player was left disgusted after the Santiago Bernabeu tie.

The Portuguese ace appeared visibly annoyed and irritated as the final whistle came down on Los Blancos' 4-3 loss at the hands of Roberto Di Matteo's crew. So disappointed was the three-time Ballon d'Or winner, he had to be dragged back onto the pitch by Iker Casillas in order to applaud the fans.

At one point, as Les Merengues' nightmarish 90 minutes neared its end, Ronaldo was caught on camera mouthing to team-mate Karim Benzema “qué vergüenza”, which means “how embarrassing”.

Despite sealing progression to the quarter-finals, the Real Madrid faithful were left enraged by their side's abysmal display, and they made their feelings heard, jeering the players off the pitch.

After making his way off the pitch, Cristiano was hounded by the press in the mixed zone, grilling him on his thoughts on the defeat. It was then that the former Manchester United winger made an astonishing outh, vowing not to speak to the Spanish press for the remainder of the season.

He said: “I won’t talk again until the end of the season.”

With the 29-year-old coming under huge criticism as of late due to a dip in form, maybe a break from the press will go far as to benefit Ronaldo and help him focus on raising his performance.
