Both players escaped sanction during the game, but were investigated after Cissé admitted the incident during the midweek match between United and Newcastle.

Papiss Cisse and Jonny Evans have been banned after spitting at each other during the game between Newcastle United and Man United this past Wednesday. While Evans did not accept the charge, Cisse admitted his wrongdoing, and both have been punished accordingly.

Evans will have to sit for the next six matches, including the FA Cup matchup against Arsenal on Monday, while Cissé will miss Newcastle's seven upcoming matches. The African player was given one more game than the usual penalty for this kind of incident since he had taken a three-match ban earlier this season for hitting Seamus Coleman with his elbow.

Manchester United's player denied being involved in such an incident, and his attorneys tried to present evidence to support his innocence, but the Independent board did not admit the submitted videos.

Neither player will be allowed to appeal this decision.
