Cardiff City sign another striker in their quest for promotion to the Premier League, as Sheffield United's Gary Speed makes his first signing for the Blades.

 

Queens Park Rangers

Championship leaders, Queen’s Park Ranger’s manager, Neil Warnock is lamenting the loss of Ipswich Town’s Jon Walters to Premier League side Stoke City. Warnock told BBC Radio London, "I think we're miles away. I told the directors we're a sixth to tenth position team.”

He continued, "We need two good strikers but we lost one of them to the Premier League. We thought we had him last week. It's disappointing as Walters has been my number one target now for a long time."

Cardiff City

In contrast to QPR, Cardiff City have no shortage of strikers. As well as having the division’s top scorer in Jay Boothroyd, the Bluebirds have Michael Chopra, Peter Whittingham and Craig Bellemy in the squad, and have just signed Wolves’ striker Andy Keogh on a season long loan.

Dave Jones the Bluebirds boss has also added, Seyi Olofinjana, Danny Drinkwater, Jason Koumas, Lee Naylor and Tom Heaton to the side this summer so will have to shuffle his pack if he wants to keep them all happy.

However, it looks likely that Ross McCormack will be heading out of the club, with Leeds United and Hull City the favorites to sign the talented young striker.

 

Burnley

Third place Burnley have agreed a new two year contract with ex-Manchester United winger Chris Eagles, and halted any speculation of him moving north of the border to either Rangers or Celtic. However, it is rumored that last season’s Championship winners, Newcastle United are keen on the 24 year old.

Brian Laws has bolstered the Turf Moor defense with the signing of the experienced Scotland defender Steve Caldwell from Wigan Athletic, on a one year contract. Wigan manager Roberto Martinez said of the defender, "He is a leader on and off the field and a totally committed defender who will add fantastic competition to the squad."

Ipswich Town

Roy Keane has signed the veteran striker Jason Scotland from Wigan Athletic. The ex-Swansea City player had a one in two goal ration for the Swans, but was unable to replicate his goal scoring pedigree in the rarefied atmosphere of the Premier league, he will be hoping that he can get back to his best and help the Tractor Boys back to the Premiership.

Millwall

League one play-off winners Millwall have been the surprise package this season so far with the scalps of two of the favorites for automatic promotion, in Hull City and Middlesbrough. The Lions have extended the contract of defensive midfielder, Scott Barron until 2014.

Norwich City

Norwich City are looking to add some experience to the defensive line after losing Michael Nelson to injury. Paul Lambert has already lost Zak Whitbread from his Canaries and after scans it looks likely that Nelson will miss at least two months.

Watford

After losing against the run of play in the Carling Cup to Notts County, Watford are rumored to be looking at signing ex-striker Marlon King. The disgraced King was released from prison at the end of July and has been looking to kick start his football career.

Leeds United

Leeds United and boss Simon Grayson will be hoping that they can make the double swoop for Cardif City’s Ross McCormack and Gavin Rae. It is reported that a fee has been agreed between the two clubs for McCormack and that the two clubs are still agreeing terms for Rae.

Middlesbrough

Under pressure Boro Manager, Gordon Strachan has called for his side to up their game to help new signing Kris Boyd build on his first goal for the Smoggies. Despite all their fire power up front the heavily fancied Boro have only scored one goal so far in the league and that was from a defensive error.

Middlesbrough have also seen Egyptian striker Mido move to Ajax of Amsterdam on a free transfer. The 27 year old Mido has struggled for first team football since the arrival of Scotland’s finest strikers this summer.

Hull City

Hull City’s Nigel Pearson has some serious thinking to do as his talented young side are struggling to gel, with so many players exiting the club. New signings, Jay Simpson from Arsenal and Robert Koren from West Bromwich Albion have only just made their home debuts in last weekends nil-nil bore draw to Watford.

Pearson will be wondering where his goals are going to come from, but will be more disappointed after his full strength team lost to League One side Brentford. Not only did the Tigers head home with their tails between their legs, but they lost one of the teams stalwarts, in Paul McShane to injury.

Swansea City

The Swans, Brendon Rodgers will be happy that striker Stephen Dobbie has signed a new three-year deal with the club, but will be over the moon if he can lure the precocious talent Henri Lansbury from Arsenal. Nineteen year old Lansbury has a number of England Under 21 caps to his name as well as a Premier League start but last season he scored five goals in 39 games for Watford.

Crystal Palace

Veteran Crystal Palace striker Alan Lee has moved to Yorkshire side Huddersfield Town for an undisclosed fee.

Derby County

Derby County’s Nigel Clough has been keeping an eye on Notts County’s  Ben Davies. The 29 year old Davies showed his Championship qualities by scoring the opener for the Magpies in tehir two-one victory over Watford in the Carling Cup this week.

Reading

Polish striker Grzegorz Rasiak has left Reading and joined Cypriot side AEL Limassol, the international striker scored ten goals in 30 games for the Royals in a one year spell.

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest and Leed United were both fined by the F.A. this week for their part in an on-field brawl when the two sides met in their one-one draw at the City Ground, Nottingham.

Bristol City

Bristol City have signed Jon Stead from Championship rivals Ipswich Town. The ex-England Under 21 international told BBC Radio Bristol, "I'm 27, I've been around a lot of clubs. It's time for me to settle down now and make sure I'm playing week in, week out - that's what I'll be focused on.

Stead continued, "I need to make sure I am a bit more consistent, I think I'll get the chance here so it's down to me to make sure I take it."

The Robins have also signed 22 year old striker Brett Pittman from Bournemouth. Pittman scored a handsome 28 goals for the Cherries last season and snubbed Premier League newbies Blackpool to join the Robins.

Portsmouth

Cash strapped Pompey look resigned to losing Marc Wilson. Steve Cotterill the Portsmouth boss has already received  an offer from West Brom and it is rumored that West Ham United and Stoke City are chasing the utility player.

Leicester City

Japan’s World Cup midfielder, Yuki Abe from J-League side Urawa Reds, looks set to join Leicestr. Abe, has reportedly told the Japanese press that he is on the verge of signing for the Foxes.

Sheffield United

Bottom placed Sheffield United have signed French full back Jean Calve from A.S. Nancy. Calve is new manager Gary Speed’s first signing for the Blades and the young manager told the Blades website, "Jean not only adds to our squad strength but has attacking qualities that we want and think we can accommodate in the team."
