The Argentinian coach relegated the Croatian striker to the bench during Atletico's last match against Sevilla, which infuriated Atletico's Number 9.

It seems that one of Diego Simeone's signings is not enjoying his role with the team lately. Striker Mario Mandzukic was left out of the team's Starting XI against Sevilla this weekend, which infuriated the Croatian player. His performance after coming in for Antoine Griezmann was rather disappointing, clearly not comfortable with his role. When the game ended, coach Diego Simeone blasted the player, urging him to think about the team first, rather than putting his interests above the club's benefit.

"We need players that are intelligent enough to understand that no one is above the team, not even the coach. We need to understand we have to make sacrifices in order to achieve better things," Simeone stated after the game at Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

Sources indicate Mandzukic came back from Leverkusen with a minor injury, but he was mad for not being told he was not starting against Los Sevillanos. While other players praised Fernando Torres' attitude, fighting to obtain possession, Mandzukic's display was rather disappointing, since he was brought in with the game 0-0, and with 25 minutes left in the clock.

Guardiola let Mandzukic go last year after similar complications

The Croatian player was deemed to be quite problematic for his former boss, Pep Guardiola, who made several references about the striker in the book "Herr Pep", where the Catalunyan manager shared his thoughts about his first season with Bayern Munich.

"Guardiola and his staff had their doubts about Mario, but none of those came for his playing style. They admired his ability to strike the ball, and how he motivated his team-mates, but they were worried about his permanent frown. His attitude could go from positive to negative and back in a matter of seconds," can be read in the coach's book.
