The decision is not final and must be approved by a committee. The final decision is expected to be announced March 20, 2015.

A taskforce team that FIFA sent to Qatar suggested that the 2022 World Cup should be played in November and December, having the final scheduled for December 23. Sepp Blatter was clear in denying the possibility of such date.

Blatter, who is in Northern Ireland, made the announcement on Friday morning. There, he attends an International Football Association Board (IFAB) meeting.

"The World Cup will not go on until the 23rd, definitely not," he said

One of the leagues that would be highly benefited by Blatter’s decision is the Premier League. While the league would pause by the beginning of November, it would give player a week after the tournament to get back with their clubs and prepare the Boxing Day games.

Meanwhile, UEFA could try and appeal that decision. Europe’s governing body had earlier suggested that the tournament should start on 26 November and end on 23 December.

This could set up another interesting debate between Michelle Platini and Blatter. This time around, it is most likely to think that EPL officials would side with the 78-year-old Fifa executive.
