The 22-year-old player assisted Cristiano Ronaldo in Madrid's second goal. Casillas hailed his teammate's progress since signing with Los Merengues.

As the game in which Elche hosted Real Madrid was coming to an end, fans from the home team stood up and applauded, but not for anyone on their team. Those cheers were for Madrid's midfielder Isco, as Arbeloa substituted him.

The 22-year-old Spaniard did not score, but did assist Cristiano Ronaldo in the goal that meant a 2-0 lead for Los Merengues in the 23rd minute of the second half. It was the eighth assist for the former Malaga player this season.

It was also Ronaldo's 290th goal with his Real Madrid. He is now third on the all-time list and 23 goals behind Raul Gonzalez, who is in the lead. Alfredo Di Stefano is next on the list with 305.

Isco will be the most important player in Spanish football in the coming years,” Iker Casillas said at the end of the game.

Casillas played his 500th game with Madrid. The 34-year-old goalkeeper was thankful for reaching that milestone. He knows he’s been through since his debut in September 1999 against Athletic. He had some words of advice for his young teammate.

“We are delighted with him but he must take care, focus on his game and go step by step. Too much flattery can weaken players,” Casillas said referring to Isco.

Isco signed with Madrid on July 1, 2013 and his contract will expire in 2018. Among his best moments with his current club are winning the Copa del Rey in 2014 and the UEFA Champions League that same year.

"My evolution doesn't surprise me, I've always believed in myself," Isco said
