The Spanish midfielder was sent off after 65 minutes, and will not be able to play the second leg against the Ukrainian side.

Bayern Munich's complicated visit to Ukraine ended up with a 0-0 draw against Shakhtar, who were unable to capitalize on their home field advantage against Guardiola's men. The Bavarians enjoyed much of the game's possesion, but were also incapable of hurting Pyatov's net.

One of the most controversial calls by Spanish referee Undiano Mallenco was the red card handed to Xabi Alonso. The former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder was celebrating his 100th Champions League game, but he received a second yellow card with 25 minutes left in the game, forcing both sides to recalculate their options and save the best for their second leg match. He is the first player ever to be sent off while playing his 100th Champions League match.

This was the second time Alonso has seen a red card while playing a Champions League match. The first one came on November 2010 while playing for Real Madrid. Nevertheless, Alonso joins six other Spanish players who have taken part in more than 100 UCL games.

Of course, Twitter had something to say about the Spanish midfielder seeing a red card while achieving such a milestone. Read some of their comments below.
