With goals by Tiago, Saul, Griezmann and Mandzukic, Atletico managed to win their first La Liga derby since 1999.

Atletico Madrid gave their fans a night for the ages, after destroying their hated neighbor 4-0. Depleted by injuries, Real Madrid tried to even the game with their individual talent, but Atletico's sense of partnership and intensity proved to be too much for Ancelotti's team.

This proved to be a historic match for Diego Simeone's men, winning their first La Liga derby for over 16 years. Furthermore, Atletico were not able to win against Real Madrid with a four-goal difference since the 1976-1977 season.

The game started with the usual intensity for Atletico, while Los Blancos were trying to secure footing in the back due to the absences of Sergio Ramos and Marcelo. Following Koke's early injury, Tiago scored the first goal of the evening with a poweful shot that bent Iker Casillas' hands. Fans were not pleased by their goalkeeper's performance, feeling he could have done a better job trying to stop that shot. Casillas has conceded 31 goals in the first fifteen minutes while playing a Madrid derby.

Angry Real Madrid fans started trolling their goalie for that failed save.

Real Madrid had not recovered from that first goal when they were handed the second, with a magnificent finish by Saul Ñiguez, who came in to substitute Koke due to injury.

As you might imagine, Saul's finish was warmly welcomed by fans all over the world.

After the break, Atletico seemed to parry with Real Madrid, who seemed unable to take a shot at Moya's goal. With Cristiano Ronaldo performing poorly, everyone else wearing a white jersey appeared to be lost. To make matters worse, Iker Casillas failed to clear a cross by Turan, leading to Griezmann's goal.

"Atletico paid 30 million euros to get Griezmann. As of today, he's worth at least 50 millions. What a player"

Finally, Mario Mandzukic scored the final goal for Atletico's dream night after a cross by fan-favorite Fernando Torres.

After the game ended, most fans praised Diego Simeone's team, while they kept asking how Real Madrid could show such a pitiful shape.

After being asked by a journalist if he had imagined Real Madrid players conceding three goals and watching their backs, Simeone replied ironically

"You can't imagine some things, they just end up happening".
