The Colombian midfielder suffered a broken metatarsal in the game against Sevilla. Doctors say the surgery went as planned.

The long road to recovery has begun for James Rodriguez who was spotted coming out of surgery at a hospital in Murcia on Thursday. The 23-year-old midfielder injured his fifth metatarsal in the right foot during the game against Sevilla.

According to Real Madrid’s website, the medical procedure went just as expected. There is no established timeframe for Rodriguez to play again. Earlier reports were hopeful to see him back on the pitch by the end of the season.

James scored the first goal of the match against Sevilla. It happened 12 minutes before having to leave the field due to his injury. Real Madrid would win the game 2-1, but his absence will be costly moving forward. 

The Puskas Award winner has sent the ball to the back of the net twelve times this season, plus assisting his teammates ten times. James, has seen action in 33 out of 36 games since he signed with Los Merengues at the end of the World Cup.

Jesé, who substituted the Colombian in the 26th minute of the game, will most likely fill in his spot. Sergio Ramos also suffered a torn hamstring during the game and could be out for five weeks.
