While the exhilarating Patriots-Seahawks Super Bowl telecast on NBC recorded the largest audience in U.S. television history, NBC’s Premier League coverage also scored with American viewers on Super Bowl weekend.

Saturday’s Chelsea-Manchester City Match Averaged 1.35 Million Viewers -- Third Most-Watched Live Premier League Game Ever in U.S.; 8.6 Million Watched 2:30pm ET Half-Hour of Super Bowl XLIX Pre-game Show Which Included Premier League Highlights & Men in Blazers Vignette; Chelsea-Manchester City Most Streamed Weekend Premier League Game on NBC Sports Live Extra; Coverage Continues with “Double Derby Day” on Saturday

NBC’s broadcast of Chelsea v. Manchester City last Saturday, Jan. 31, -- a 1-1 draw between the Premier League’s top two clubs -- averaged 1.35 million viewers to rank as the third most-watched live Premier League match in U.S. history. NBC’s Manchester United-Arsenal telecast on November 22, 2014 averaged 1.41 million to rank as the most-watched live Premier League match in the U.S.

In the past five months, NBC has televised three of the four most-watched live Premier League matches in U.S. history (chart below).

In addition, Chelsea-Manchester City ranks as the most-streamed weekend Premier League match in history, with more than 73,000 uniques on NBC Sports Live Extra.

On Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 1, 8.6 million people tuned into the 2:30 p.m. ET half-hour of NBC’s Super Bowl XLIX Pre-game Show, which included Premier League host Rebecca Lowe on set with Football Night in America’s Dan Patrick and Tony Dungy at University of Phoenix Stadium. Lowe delivered a Premier League highlight segment, which included a look at the Chelsea-Manchester City match.  Leading into Lowe’s segment was a special one-minute piece with the Men in Blazers’ Michael Davies and Roger Bennett choosing which NFL players they would recruit for their #MINIFFC soccer roster with MINI USA.

NBC Sports Group’s live soccer coverage continues with 20 matches in five days highlighted by two of the biggest derbies in English soccer this Saturday, Feb. 7. Coverage begins Saturday at 7:45 a.m. ET when storied rivals Tottenham and Arsenal face off in the North London Derby on NBCSN and NBC UNIVERSO, and continues at 12:30 p.m. ET, with Everton hosting neighbors Liverpool in a Merseyside Derby on NBC and NBC UNIVERSO.
