Without Cristiano Ronaldo, Lucas Silva could play his first minutes as a Merengue. Sevilla is not expected to be a friendly visitor.

Real Madrid and Sevilla will play their 21st game of the season and catch up with the rest of the teams in the competition. This Wednesday could be the day Lucas Silva makes his debut at Santiago Bernabeu.

The Brazilian was on the initial roster Ancelotti had planned for their most recent game against Real Sociedad. In the end, the 21-year-old witnessed how Madrid won 4-1, all the way from the stands.

Earlier in the week, the manager of Los Merengues pointed out that Silva would hardly be a starter in the upcoming game. At the same time, he did not deny the possibility for the player to substitute Asier Illarramendi at some point in the game.

Besides the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, due to a two-game suspension, the rest of Madrid’s starters are expected to play. Sevilla is not an easy opponent; they are currently in fourth place, just nine points behind Madrid, that leads the standings.

“They are a dangerous team with a lot of quality. They are organized with players ready to go on the counter,” said the Italian coach.

The last time both teams faced each other, Real Madrid won 2-0 in the UEFA Super Cup FinalReal Madrid and Sevilla faced each other was at the Super Cup final

A win for today’s home team would mean they get a four-point lead over Barcelona in La Liga standings. Barca’s goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen is hoping this will not happen.

“In the league we have to wait for Real Madrid to slip up, which I’m sure will happen,” said Stegen, adding that his team must keep winning to keep their hopes alive.

Iker Casillas, the Spanish goalkeeper, will be making his 497th La Liga appearance. Along with former teammate Fernando Hierro, will be tied for seventh place on the list of players with most games in the league. Andoni Zubizarreta tops it with 662 games.
