Liverpool come into this match after a scintillating fixture against Chelsea in the second leg of the Capital One Cup semi final, a match they lost 2-1 on aggregate in extra time. This implies that Brendan Rodgers might have to rest some tired legs but will be in a buoyant mood with star striker Daniel Sturridge in contention to make his return.
"He has looked very good in training, outstanding, but we will give him another day and I will have a chat with him again tomorrow to see how he feels. At this moment, he looks in top-class condition," Rodgers said.
"Since he came back from his spell in America, he's been very upbeat and has been working as hard as he can.
"In the last few days -- and particularly this morning -- he was brilliant in training. He was dynamic, strong and focused.
However the former Swansea boss has insisted that Liverpool fans should not demand too much from the returning striker but is confident that Sturridge will make Liverpool a better team.
"But we have to be careful. We don't want to put too much pressure on him. We can't say he's going to be the saving grace, but he's certainly going to make us a better team."
"I think Daniel's absence has had a huge impact on our season," he continued. "When we played one of our early games at Tottenham, you saw what a reference point he was for the team in the game -- and from that point he hasn't played."
West Ham on the other hand are unbeaten in their last five games in all competitions and are one place above Liverpool in the league table. Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing will be making a return to the Anfield and will be hoping to make life miserable for the Liverpool defence. The duo were disappointing during their respective spells at the Merseyside club but have been impressive for a West Ham side which has exceeded expectations this campaign.
They were against Bristol City in their last outing a match they won by a 1-0 score line after Sakho scored from an Andy Carroll cross.
Mamadou Sakho suffered a knock in the match against Chelsea and is doubtful to play against West Ham. Sam Allardyce on the other hand might be without Alex Song, James Tomkins, Carl Jenkinson and James Collins.
