Ghana star Asamoah Gyan says he has not yet recovered from his illness despite returning to the Ghana squad and netting the winner against giants Algeria on Friday.

After being cast out of the team sheets for his country’s 2-1 humiliation by Senegal by a bout of malaria, the former Sunderland man managed to get back onto his feet and inspire his team to a crucial three points against Algeria, the best ranked team in Africa.

However, with a crucial clash against South Africa looming, fresh concerns have arisen after the forward’s latest presser in which he has stated that he is not yet back to full fitness.

"It's a really bad disease, it really takes everything out of you. I still feel weak and I was in hospital last week and missed our first game," said Gyan in the aftermath of Ghana’s memorable win over Algeria.

"Although I was not fit for the game, the players said they needed me and had confidence in me. I said to myself I had to sacrifice something for the team."

"Most important now for me is to sleep and try and shake this," added Gyan,

Ghana coach Avram Grant and indeed all Black Stars fans will be hoping the clinical front man can make it onto his country’s squad list for their crunch game vs. the Bafana on Tuesday.
