“The other day a coach of a big team was knocked out of the cup and he was saying, ‘Good, very good. This is perfect for us. Now we can focus on the other competitions.’ If I lose against Bradford, I don’t say that. I say it’s a disgrace," Jose Mourinho said yesterday.
Almost premonitory, Chelsea lost their fourth round FA Cup match against Bradford City with a 4-2 final score. The current Premier League leaders were not able to hold a two-goal lead against the Bantams, who kept on fighting and shocked everyone who had the chance to watch this game.
Things for the Blues started quite fine, with goals by Gary Cahill and Ramires. Then, Chelsea tried to parry with their opponents and conceded one goal before the first half ended. When the game resumed, Bradford City kept coming in close to tying the game, without a significant reaction by Mourinho's men. With the tying goal by Felipe Morais, the Portuguese manager tried to shake things up by giving way for Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas, but the momentum was already with the visitors. Andrew Halliday's goal after 81 minutes created mayhem at Stamford Bridge, where fans could not believe what they were witnessing. Chelsea tried to equalize, but Mark Yeates made it 4-2 to complete the shocker.
After the game ended, Jose Mourinho spoke to the press about this unexpected turn of events.
Jose Mourinho: 'I feel happy for Bradford despite my feeling for the game. And I also feel ashamed & my players should feel the same.' #CFC
