The Portuguese superstar officialized his break-up with Russian model Irina Shayk. The player intends to silence talks about his private life to concentrate on his career.

After much speculation surrounding his personal life, Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo released a statement to end the rumors about his break-up with Russian model Irina Shayk. The Portuguese player wishes to concentrate on the pitch and leave everything behind, as the statement reveals.

"After dating for five years, my relationship with Irina Shayk has come to an end. We believed it would be best for both of us to take this step now. I'm making this statement to end speculation about our relationship and to end rumors about my personal life. I wish Irina the greatest happiness," can be read in the brief statement.

Irina Shayk became popular in 2007 after her appearance in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. She started working frequently for big brands such as Guess,Armani and Victoria's Secret. She became the first Russian model to appear on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition back in 2011.

She met CR7 for the first time in 2010 during an advertising campaign for Armani. The couple started dating shortly after,  with the model travelling with Ronaldo to the World Cup held in South Africa. After the news broke out they were dating, the model signed contracts with important brands all around the world, made the cover of several magazines (some of them with Ronaldo), and even made her film debut alongside former wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

While dating the Russian model, Cristiano Ronaldo won several trophies. Some of those mentions include:

  • Ballon D'Or awards (2013,2014)

  • UEFA Player of the Year (2014)

  • Golden Boot (2011, 2014)

  • UEFA Champions League top scorer (2013, 2014)

  • La Liga's Pichichi award (2011, 2014)

Here's the list of trophies he won with Real Madrid being Irina Shayk's boyfriend:

  • Spanish Primera División (2012)

  • UEFA Champions League (2014)

  • Copa del Rey (2011, 2014)

  • Spanish Super Cup (2012)

  • UEFA Super Cup (2014)

  • FIFA Club World Cup (2014)

During his romance with the Russian model, Cristiano Ronaldo's performance in the World Cups of 2010 and 2014 was rather disappointing. Being able to score only one goal in each tournament, CR7 and the Portuguese National Team were eliminated by the eventual Champion Spain in the Round of 16 of the 2010 World Cup. During last year's tournament, Portugal was eliminated in the Group Stage after losing to eventual Champions Germany. Perhaps one of his goals after breaking up with Irina would be that of showing his class at the 2018 World Cup, if the team coached by Fernando Santos can qualify. Ironically, the tournament will be hosted in the country of his latest ex-girlfriend.

Short term, Ronaldo's focus would be winning another League title with Real Madrid, where they currently lead after 18 games played. Furthermore, CR7 will try to lead Los Blancos to their 11th UEFA Champions League trophy. Finally, Cristiano will surely be aiming to establish a new goal scoring record in the UCL, while fighting Lionel Messi for this edition's scoring title.
