A representative of the 29-year-old Russian supermodel confirmed that the rumors were in fact true, and that her five-year relationship with Ronaldo has ended.

It is official. Days of rumors and speculations have finally come to an end. Irina Shayk has confirmed her split with Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

After being a no-show during the Portuguese ace's Ballon d'Or triumph last week, she was reported to have unfollowed the 29-year-old on Twitter, as news of a believed break up hit the headlines.

Now though, a representative of the Russian supermodel revealed to Page Six that her five-year relationship with Ronaldo has come to an end, saying:

“We can confirm Irina Shayk has ended her relationship to Cristiano Ronaldo.”

The reason behind the couple's split, however, remains unknown to the public. Failing to make the Ballon d'Or gala due to business commitments, as stated by Shayk's camp, rumors claimed Cristiano ended his romance with Irina after she refused to attend a surprise birthday party for his 60-year-old mother Dolores Aveiro.

Reports out of Ronaldo's home country of Portugal went as far as to suggest that there was tension between Shayk, Dolores Aveiro and his sisters, which led to their break-up. This, however, is a rumor Shayk's representative was quick to deny, stressing that the model enjoys a close relationship with her exes' mother.

“She has been close with his family throughout the course of their relationship. Any negative rumors with regards to Irina and the Ronaldo family are completely false, and have not been a factor in the cause of the split. Irina has no further comment at the time.”

What remains a mystery is the length to which this break up will affect the three-time Ballon d'Or winner on the pitch. The former Manchester United man has gone off the radar with a number of low-key displays as of late, including Thursday's Copa del Rey exit at the hands of city rival Atletico Madrid.

Real Madrid fans will be hoping he can keep his head focused on the club and on his game as they look to bounce back and return to winning ways when they visit Getafe this Sunday.
