Past the halfway mark of the English Premier League and Manchester United’s manager Louis van Gaal still has some doubts. Is Radamel Falcao worth his value?
Along with Ángel di María, Falcao was brought in this season to try and take the Red Devils back to glory.
“If a player cost 95 million pounds or 5 million it does not make any difference for me. You have to prove yourself,” said van Gaal.
In the twelve games, the Colombian has only scored on three occasions. With Monaco, he scored 11 in 20 appearances. It was during his time with Atlético de Madrid when he shined the brightest with 52 goals in 68 games.
“When we buy a player he has to be better than the players that are playing now and that is a difficult job,” Van Gaal added.
When Van Gaal says something like that, he means it. Since he started working with Man United after the World Cup, the Dutch manager has got rid of 15 players either permanently or on a loan.
If Falcao’s performance doesn't improve, there are few possibilities the club decides to buy the striker. Just recently, his agent Jorge Mendes announced the 28-year-old player could be heading elsewhere after the season is over.
“He will play in one of the very best clubs in the world next season, whether that is Manchester United or not,” said Mendes about his client who has been lately linked with Juventus.
Manchester is up to its worst start in 28 years with 37 points in 21 games sitting in fourth place. The boss admits it will be hard to finish on top if they continue playing the same way.
“When you are not doing that (winning games), you can’t be champions,” he declared.
Manchester United's next game is away to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday. Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur will all be in action at the same time.
