Despite making the score sheet, the Portuguese star did not enjoy the greatest of nights as his side were dumped out of the Copa del Rey on Thursday.

The stage was set for Cristiano Ronaldo on Thursday. Fresh off his Ballon d'r triumph, beating rivals Lionel Messi and Manuel Neuer, the Portuguese superstar took to the field in hopes of guiding Real Madrid to a comeback in their Copa del Rey clash with Atletico Madrid.

The cup holders lost to Diego Simeone's men 2-0 in the first leg at the Vicente Calderon Stadium. Welcoming Los Rojiblancos to the Bernabeu, Los Blancos needed an emphatic 3-0 win, at the very least, to secure victory.

However, Carlo Ancelotti's side were unable to do so, drawing 2-2 instead, losing 4-2 on aggregate. With a horrendous showing from Real Madrid defender Pepe, Ronaldo failed to leave his mark on the game, as Fernando Torres stole the show in the Madrid derby.

Cristiano did etch his name into the score sheet, though. Scoring a 54th minute header to bring the game back level 2-2, it was his FIRST goal in open play in over a month, with his last coming back in December 12.

This is surprising for a man who leads both the Spanish and European goalscoring charts, with a whopping 32 goals in all competitions for the 10-time Champions League winners, 26 of them coming in La Liga.

The 29-year-old former Manchester United winger apologised to the fans on behalf of the team after the final whistle, but did admit he cannot score and shine in every single game.

"In the name of the team, I can only apologise to the fans, because we could have done better in the second half," Cristiano confessed. "I appreciate the support we received on the bus, and the reception they gave me before the game."

"You cannot score in every game, or be at your best," the Portuguese ace added. "Tell me a player who always plays well. I am not from another planet. Maybe I am not perfectly fit, but I will be there. The knee issue is over, I have got used to playing with pain. In two or three weeks I will be fine, and the team too."

A horrible stat for an even worse performance.
