The German midfielder praised his team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo as a fair winner, since he was the best player last year.

German midfielder Toni Kroos was not pleased with this year's Ballon D'Or results, since he believed Manuel Neuer should have been voted second instead of Lionel Messi. Kroos even thought it would be a much tighter dispute between Neuer and Cristiano Ronaldo, who ended up winning the award.

"I thought the results were going to be much closer between Cristiano and Manuel. Neuer was by far the best keeper of them all. To be honest, it's surprising and rather disappointing that Manuel ended up behind Messi in the final ballot,"Kroos told the press.

Nevertheless, the midfielder praised his Real Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, considering him a "fair winner".

"Cristiano was the best player out there. I think everything should have been decided between him and Manuel, but Cristiano deserved to win the award, there was no one like him on the pitch," the German added.

Kroos was elected as one of the member of FIFPro's XI, along Angel Di Maria and Andres Iniesta.
