The Mexican centerback has been subject of rumors for some time now despite coming down with an injury during the past World Cup.

Arsenal's defense has been the subject of many headaches for Arsene Wenger this season. Willing to make a change in that area, the French manager wants to sign Mexican defender Hector Moreno. According to sources, the Gunners sent scouts to watch Moreno in action during Espanyol's last game against Valencia for the Copa del Rey, with the intention of signing the left-footed center back.

Moreno recently returned to active duty with Espanyol after coming down with an injury during the past World Cup with his National Team. The Mexican defender played for AZ Alkmaar for two years and was later transferred to Spanish football, where he has been praised as one of La Liga's best defenders.

Moreno was set to make a move this summer, but his injury while playing against The Netherlands forced the team's plans to be put on hold. Espanyol would be willing to sell the player for the right amount, since their financial situation is not that good. The former U-17 champion with El Tri has been sought out by other Premier League sides such as Manchester United and Tottenham, given the good impression he left on Louis Van Gaal and Mauricio Pocchetino, two of his previous coaches with AZ and Espanyol.

Moreno's contract with Espanyol ends in 2016, and the Spanish team would be willing to transfer Moreno for 10 million euros.
