Winning the Ballon d'Or, let alone clinching the coveted award for a second consecutive year, can erupt joy in the heart of any footballer. So it was forgivable to see Cristiano Ronaldo let out a scream of joy, yelling out “Si!”, meaning “Yes!”, during Monday's gala.
The Real Madrid ace was up against Barcelona star Lionel Messi and Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, beating out the Argentine and German to lift the prize in the city of Zurich. Winning by a landslide, Ronaldo was presented with the Ballon d'Or for the third time in his career, and after his acceptance speech, he belted out something that resembled a battle cry.
Being asked afterwards the meaning behind his scream, Cristiano revealed that it was dedicated to Los Blancos, whom he has enjoyed huge success with over the years, winning them a record-breaking 10th Champions League title, a UEFA Super Cup, and a Fifa Club World Cup trophy.
"The scream? The players know I always do that shout when I score a goal or when we win. It’s our shout, from Real Madrid,” the 29-year-old former Manchester United explained.
