Speaking to the media ahead of the award ceremony, the Argentine made comments that seriously cast his future at Camp Nou in doubt.

Lionel Messi is one of the world's best football player, if not the best. That said, when a player of his status hints he might be switching clubs, social media goes into a frenzy, and the press

This is exactly what the Argentine did whilst speaking to the media in a press conference ahead of Monday's Ballon d'Or ceremony, Messi, who is rumored with a move to English Premier League giants Chelsea non-stop, was asked by a reporter whether he sees himself retiring at Barcelona.

The 27-year-old attacker's response: "I'm not sure. As Cristiano says, you never know."

What followed later was even more worrying for Barcelona fans. Leo, who made the 3-man shortlist for the coveted award for a record 8th consecutive year, then continued to say: "I don't know where I'll be next year. In football things can change overnight."

These comments by the record Liga BBVA scorer comes shortly after he assured the fans of his intentions to remain with the Catalan giants.

Speaking to Barca TV after the Blaugrana's 3-1 win over Atletico Madrid on Sunday, Messi stated: "I never demanded anything to stay, as I have no intention of leaving.

"It is said that my father spoke with Man City, with Chelsea. It's all lies, it's all lies."

The only thing that is for certain is the media will never go quiet over Messi's future. Will he stay at Barcelona, or exit Camp Nou?
