No Samuel Eto'o and no Alex Song. Will the Indomitable Lions cope well without the two retirees at this year's AFCON?

While many African countries are only just discovering their way in football, Cameroon boasts cup winning experience and a top class squad. Going into their 17th appearance in the Africa Cup of Nations this year, the Indomitable Lions will draw confidence from their four glorious triumphs in the tournament (1984, 1988, 2000, and 2002). In Africa, they are ranked 8th in the latest FIFA CAF rankings and 42nd in the world.

How Cameroon qualified for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations

Placed in a tough group D that featured the likes of Ivory Coast and DR Congo, Cameroon's route to AFCON 2015 included a sensational 4-1 home victory over the Elephants. Their dour goalless draws against Sierra Leone on 11 October 2014 and against Ivory Coast on the return leg could not stop them from winning the group and qualifying first.

The retirement of leading scorer Samuel Eto'o just before this year's CAN is certainly not a good thing for the Indomitable Lions. Nonetheless, young hot shot striker Vincent Aboubakar, who plays for FC Porto, will feel that he can fill a good portion of the former captain's shoes and he has already started. The forward has scored in almost every qualifying match Cameroon has played, including a brace in the heated game against Ivory Coast on 10 September 2014.
