Lukas Podolski’s time on the bench at Arsenal may soon end. Inter Milan may offer him an escape route in his quest for more playing time on the field.

Fresh news from English source Sky Sports indicates that Lukas Podolski is set to join Internazionale on a loan transfer. According to reports, the German forward will be in Milan on Friday night for talks as a permanent deal worth £5M could be possible. This transfer report may not sound well in the ears of Arsenal fans – especially a day after suffering a disappointing 2-0 loss away to Southampton in the English Premier League.

However, Arsene Wenger fuelled speculations on Thursday by stating:

“The first proposal [from Inter] was farcical. After, they come back a bit more serious. We will see what happens.

“Is the move inevitable? Inevitable in a transfer is very difficult to say but we’ll see what happens. Of course, Podolski is open [to the move].”

Podolski, meanwhile, hit back at earlier reports from The Mirror which claimed that the striker had stormed out of Arsenal’s training session. The 29-year-old World Cup winner took to Twitter on New Year’s Day to declare:

Whether there is tension involving Lukas Podolski at Arsenal or not, the latest news surrounding the attacker is that he is on his way to Inter Milan on loan. The trip is scheduled for tonight, if Sky Sports News’ sources are to be trusted.

The Gunners are currently sixth in the EPL with 33 points, two behind the Top Four zone. Their next game is against Hull City in the FA Cup this Sunday.
