According to reports, the English midfielder will be announcing his Anfield exit on Friday after 17 unforgettable seasons at Liverpool.

This season could see the end of one of the greatest-ever love affairs between player and club, the departure of one of the English Premier League’s greatest-ever talents, most respected leaders.

The rumors have been picking up speed recently, gaining momentum. According to the latest reports, Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will leave Anfield this summer when his contract with the Reds runs out.

Late on Thursday, after the Merseyside club drew 2-2 at home with newly-promoted side Leicester City, a match which saw Stevie net a brace, the Mirror reported that the former England captain will announce his Anfield exit within 24 hours, meaning anytime on Friday.

Despite continuous talks over a renewal to his current contract, which has only six months remaining, Gerrard is not willing to step back and play a bit-part role at Liverpool, and has thus decided he will leave his club of 20 years when the season ends.

Debuting in 1998 for the first-team at the age of 18, 17 glorious seasons with the 18-time English champions has seen Gerrard lift ten titles, including that unforgettable Champions League trophy in 2005. One medal that will forever evade Gerrard's long list of accolades if he were to leave this summer though would be a Premier League crown.

The 34-year-old, however, has not yet made up his mind on where to continue the next chapter of his football career, with huge interest in his services coming from Major League Soccer. Gerrard, though, is heavily tipped to follow in the footsteps of former Three Lions team-mate David Beckham and join LA Galaxy, with the US giants reportedly having already offered the Liverpool captain a contract.
