Manchester United keep undefeated in their last eight matches after winning their Boxing Day fixture against Newcastle. With a brilliant performance by Wayne Rooney, the Red Devils keep their third spot in the English Premier League after defeating the Magpies with a 3-1 score.
Rooney scored a brace in the first half of the match, taking full advantage of a beautiful play started by Juan Mata, who served the ball to Radamel Falcao inside the box. Falcao assisted Rooney all alone, scoring the game opener after marvelous team work. His second goal came after Falcao stole the ball from Newcastle's defenders, served it to Juan Mata, who left Rooney alone in the box one more time to put it out of Alnwick's reach.
After the break, Newcastle pressed hard on De Gea's goal, but it was Manchester United who managed to make their lead unreachable after a lobbed ball by Rooney which was headed by Robin Van Persie for the third goal of the match. During the dying minutes of the game, Pappiss Cisse scored Newcastle's goal via a penalty kick.
