The Red Devils captain is feeling quite upbeat about where the team could finish in May.

After a difficult start, Manchester United appear to be slowly getting back on track this season.

While the Red Devils are currently out of European competition due to their disappointing performance during the past campaign, one positive aspect is that it will allow them to focus all their energy on qualifying for next season's Champions League.

Six straight wins, including a recent 3-0 result over Liverpool this past weekend have now lifted Louis Van Gaal's side into a solid third-placed position.

More important, the 20-time Premier League champions are now just eight behind league leaders Chelsea and five behind cross-town rivals and last season's winners Manchester City. And while this may seem to be a lot, one must be aware that the season is far from over.

Hence, there are many more games to be played in which results can go either in favor or against a side--in particular if, as in the case of the top two, that they also have Champions League football to focus on.

Newly installed captain Wayne Rooney, though, is feeling so confident about his side's performances as of late that he's not just thinking they will manage a top three finish.

"I think we have to believe we can win the title," he stated in a recent interview.

“We’re eight points behind and coming into a busy period. If we can win our games and the others have one bad result, then there’s nothing there [dividing us from them].

"Some of the games haven’t gone the way we would like, but we’re winning them and that’s a great quality to have.

“[Besides], we won the league two years ago and we weren’t great in a lot of those games, but we got the results."
