Chelsea won yet another match in midweek in the UEFA Champions League against Sporting Lisbon. Despite making a rather easy group seem somewhat difficult, Chelsea navigated their passage safely through to the Round of 16. They are considered by many as the only English team which has what it takes to go all the way and lift the trophy with big ears in the capital of the country in which they previously won the trophy, Germany. Berlin's Olympiastadion, Hertha Berlin's home, will host the final in 2015, a final in which Chelsea might be present once again.
Chelsea remains top of the league despite poor form. In the last three matches, Chelsea has won one, drawn one and lost the other. Their loss came at the hands of highflying Newcastle; Alan Pardew's team beat Chelsea with ten men. Pardew's side will take on Arsenal next. While Arsenal are not exactly challengers this season, Chelsea still have to be wary of holders Manchester City and the silent climbers, Manchester United. Chelsea must watch their backs. Their next fixture is not exactly an easy one. Hull City, despite being eighteenth, will not be easy to handle. Hull have lost many matches by thin margins but have picked up two points in their last two fixtures.
Teams which are fighting against relegation have their backs against the wall; this causes them to turn in brave performances at times which shock even the biggest teams.
Hull will be coming into this one without Mohamed Diame and Robert Snodgrass. Gaston Ramirez, however, has completed serving out his suspension and should return for this one. Nathan Ake is out for Chelsea while Cesc Fabregas is suspended. Thibaut Courtois is out with a muscular problem; his injury should in all likelihood allow Chelsea's former Number One, Petr Cech, a rare outing in goal.
