The Manchester City captain looks to be fit for the Olimpico Stadium clash, a decisive game which will decide the Citizens' fate in this season's Champions League.

Just as everything appeared to have turned for the worse, English Premier League giants Manchester City have been handed positive news in the injury department in the form of Vincent Kompany's return to fitness.

According to Ian Ladyman of the Daily Mail, the Citizens captain is eligible for a starting eleven berth for Wednesday's Roma tie in the Champions League after making great progress in the road to recovery from the hamstring injury he picked up away to Southampton.

The Belgian center-back, who trained on Monday, has reportedly informed club manager Manuel Pellegrini that he is “ready to play if required”.

Furthermore, Spanish playmaker David Silva, who has been out of action since October 29 after injuring his knee in the 2-0 Capital One Cup home defeat to Newcastle, will face a late fitness test, and could be fit in time for the trip to Italy.

A huge boost for Manuel Pellegrini, Kompany and possibly Silva's return comes at a time when injuries looked to damp down on the Citizens' Champions League hopes. The Manchester side, who are in great form heading into Wednesday's match, lost star attacker and leading scorer Sergio Aguero to knee ligament damage on Saturday, and will be without the Argentine for 4-6 weeks.

A trip to the Olimpico Stadium, the clash with Rudi Garcia's men is a very crucial game for Pellegrini's crew. City, currently residing in second spot, behind Group E leaders Bayern Munich, must avoid defeat in order to secure progression to the round of 16.

"We have made mistakes in the other games but we are fighting to qualify," said Pellegrini, ahead of their tie against the Giallorossi.
